    FORWARD OPERATING BASE FENTY, Afghanistan – Task Force Bastogne commander U.S. Army Col. Andrew P. Poppas of Janesville, Wis., addresses civilian and military leaders at a conference on efforts to build the region's agri-business sector at Forward Operating Base Fenty Sept. 6. About 50 military and civilians attended the conference, including key leaders of the Missouri National Guard’s ADT IV, which works in Nangahar Province, the Kansas National Guard’s ADT II, which works in Laghman Province, and the Iowa National Guard’s 734th ADT, which works in Kunar Province.     Representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Agency for International Development and their various implementing organizations met with military leaders from the three National Guard Agri-Business Development Teams serving the eastern Afghanistan provinces of Nangahar, Laghman and Kunar, which are all in the Task Force Bastogne area of operations.

Tristan Hinderliter, Laghman Provincial Reconstruction Team Public Affairs)LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Provincial officials, including Laghman governor Mohammed Iqbal Azizi, recently attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Chardi Road Rehabilitation, a U.S. government-funded road improvement project in Mehtar Lam District, Aug. 25.

    “The road will provide improved transportation and opportunities for work for more than 3,000 people in the area,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Sean Stapler of Narragansett, R.I., Laghman Provincial Reconstruction Team lead engineer. “Residents will have greater access to medical and educational facilities, as well as government services. The project will also enhance security by allowing Afghan National Security Forces better access to the region.”

IED attacks not going well for Taliban fighters

GHAZNI, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Force Soldiers from Task Force White Eagle and Brawler killed five Taliban improvised explosive device emplacers Sep. 2 during combat operations in the Andar District of Ghazni Province.

 

An ISAF air weapons team observed the five Taliban fighters emplacing an IED, made a positive identification and engaged them, killing all five.

ISAF, ANSF forces repel attack at bases in Khowst province; kill, capture insurgents

KHOWST PROVINCE, Afghanistan – International Security Assistance Force servicemembers and Afghan National Security Forces repelled complex attacks at two bases in Khowst province, killing 31 insurgents and capturing five Aug. 28.

Insurgents attacked Forward Operating Base Chapman and FOB Salerno with indirect, rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire in an early morning assault.
